Find the right place to stay
while learning French in Bordeaux
If you are booking a French course in Bordeaux and need accommodation guidance, this page will help you compare areas, transport options and types of stay before you arrive.
Finding the right accommodation is an important part of your French learning experience. Whether you are coming for one week, several months, alone, with a partner or as a family, the right area and accommodation type can make your stay much easier.
We help you compare areas, understand local options and prepare your accommodation search before you book directly with the provider. French in Bordeaux does not sell accommodation packages and does not act as a travel agency.
Accommodation is booked directly by the student with the selected provider.
Where will your French course take place?
Most of our French courses take place at Darwin Éco-système, our main training location. The best place to stay depends on your programme, your course location and how you want to experience Bordeaux.
Darwin Éco-système (main location)
Darwin Éco-système is our main training location, dedicated to French courses and immersive experiences. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, Darwin is one of Bordeaux’s most creative places to learn French.
As most courses take place at Darwin, areas such as Bastide, the city centre, Chartrons or locations with easy tram access are usually the most convenient.
Mérignac (admin & on request)
Our Mérignac location is mainly used for administration. Some sessions can also take place there on request, and it can be practical for students who need easier access to Bordeaux airport or western parts of the city.
Depending on your programme, we will help you understand whether staying near Darwin, Bordeaux centre or Mérignac makes more sense.
Some lessons may also take place in real-life settings across Bordeaux, such as cafés, markets, cultural venues, neighbourhood walks or professional environments.
Think location, but also transport
When choosing accommodation in Bordeaux, distance is not the only thing that matters. A place that is slightly further away but well connected by tram, bus or bike can be more convenient than a central location with poor access to your course meeting point.
Tram access
Bordeaux has a useful tram and bus network connecting the city centre, the right bank, university areas, Mérignac and many residential districts. When possible, choose accommodation close to a tram stop.
Plan your journeys on the official TBM journey planner (Transports Bordeaux Métropole). The TBM app is also highly recommended: download it on your phone before you arrive.
Bike and walking routes
Bordeaux is a walkable and bike-friendly city, especially around the river, the historic centre and the Bastide area. For some students, cycling can be a simple way to move between accommodation, lessons and cultural activities.
Airport and train station
If you arrive by plane or train, it may be useful to choose accommodation with simple access to Bordeaux airport, Saint-Jean train station or your first course location.
Our advice: before booking accommodation, check the journey time to your course location, not only the distance on the map. A well-connected neighbourhood can make your stay much easier.
Choose the option that fits your stay
Bordeaux offers different accommodation solutions depending on your budget, length of stay and level of independence.
Student residences
A practical option for longer stays, Erasmus+ participants or learners looking for a student atmosphere and access to public transport.
Availability, eligibility and paperwork may vary depending on the period.
Hotels & apart-hotels
Ideal for short stays, professionals, couples or families who want flexibility, privacy and a simple booking process.
Apart-hotels can be useful for longer stays thanks to more independence and kitchen facilities.
Host family options
For deeper immersion, staying with a host family can support everyday French practice and cultural understanding.
Host options may be available depending on the period, the student profile and the length of stay.
Where should you stay in Bordeaux?
Bordeaux is well connected by tram, bus, bike and walking routes. The best area depends on your programme and your lifestyle.
Bastide / Darwin area
A good choice if your course takes place at Darwin Éco-système. Creative, lively and close to the river.
Best for: students taking courses at Darwin.
Bordeaux city centre
Ideal if you want cafés, restaurants, museums, shops and cultural life within walking distance.
Best for: first-time visitors who want everything within walking distance.
Chartrons
A calm and elegant area, close to the river, independent shops and a more residential atmosphere.
Best for: calmer stays, couples and professionals.
Saint-Michel / Victoire
Central, lively and student-friendly, with good access to many parts of the city.
Best for: lively atmosphere and student budget.
Mérignac
Practical if you have a session at our Mérignac location on request, or if you need easier airport access.
Best for: airport access or sessions on request.
Talence / Pessac
Residential, student-friendly and generally well connected by tram to Bordeaux and Mérignac.
Best for: longer student stays and tram access.
